Opa
Soms voel ik me net Wim Sonneveld in zijn conference Opa; ‘ach, Ik ben te oud voor die rotzooi!’
Ik herinner me nog dat kinderen, toen ik op de lagere school zat, brandweer wilden worden, of kapster, politieman en dokter. Nu willen kinderen beroemd worden.
Nu ben ik altijd in de veronderstelling geweest dat beroemd zijn gepaard ging met een bepaald talent. Maar ik heb Paris Hilton of Britt nog nooit op enig talent kunnen betrappen.
Daar gaat het ook helemaal niet om. Het gaat om roem en rijkdom.

Bekende Nederlander
Tegenwoordig staat er een heel ander soort beroep bovenaan de wensenlijst: Bekende Nederlander. Of zanger/es blijkbaar. Gezien de aanmeldingen voor The Voice Kids. Honderden kinderen die maar één doel hebben. Beroemd worden. Hoewel ik me soms wel eens afvraag of het de kinderen zijn die de wens hebben of de ouders. Ik heb een paar fragmenten gezien en ik zat me dood te ergeren aan de moeders die in de wachtruimte haast hysterisch stonden mee te zingen terwijl hun kind op het podium stond.

Toddlers & Tiara’s
Het deed me heel sterk denken aan het programma Toddlers & Tiara’s. Waarin volvette, niet moeders mooiste moeders hun peuters en kleuters in de meest afzichtelijke, met overvloedig veel lovertjes beklede jurkjes hijsen en hen vervolgens bewegingen laten maken waar een getrainde burlesque danseres jaloers op zou zijn. Alsof de moeders hun vervlogen dromen alsnog proberen te verwezenlijken door middel van hun kinderen.
Niet dat er geen echte talentjes tussen zitten hoor bij de Voice Kids. Maar als ik een meisje van dertien zie, in een outfit die een vrouw van vijfentwintig niet zou misstaan en ze een nummer zingt waarvan de tekst over het hoofd van de gemiddelde dertienjarige gaat …vraag ik me toch af wie de regie in handen heeft.
